Three Charged With Murder Of Man With Learning Difficulties
Three people were today charged with the murder of a 23-year-old man with learning difficulties after a street attack.
The victim, Brent Martin, died in hospital after being found with multiple injuries on Thursday night in Sunderland.
Northumbria Police said a 21-year-old man and two youths, one aged 17 and one aged 16, will appear at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
A woman and another 17-year-old youth have been released on police bail.
Throughout today floral tributes and a soft toy were left at the scene of the attack in Baxter Road on the Town End Farm estate of Sunderland.
Included were single red roses, carnations and a daisy plant.
A white envelope, with hand drawn hearts from Mr Martin’s sister Angela read: “Gentle Jesus up above give my brother a love. He’s with his dad who he hardley (sic) knew because he died when he was 5. Now he is in peace. Brent, you were gentle and kind, you would have helped anybody.
“Until we meet again Brent Love you.”
Northumbria Police today thanked the local community for its help and support in the wake of the attack. Detective Superintendent Barbara Franklin said: “I am very pleased with the response from the local community. “The people of Town End Farm have been excellent.”
