Parents and brothers of vulnerable man appear in court accused of his manslaughter

The parents and brothers of a “vulnerable” young man have appeared in court accused of killing him at the family’s mansion.

Kennedy Ife, 26, allegedly suffered a heart attack after being restrained at the home in Lancaster Avenue, Barnet, north London, in August 2016.

His mother Josephine, 55, and father Kenneth Ife, 63, are charged with manslaughter along with siblings Colin, 25, Daniel, 20, Harry, 31, Roy, 32, and Samuel Ife, 28.

They also face charges of false imprisonment and causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult between August 19 and 23 2016.

Kennedy’s mother and brothers Harry, Colin and Samuel pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The remaining family members, who are all on bail, did not enter their pleas.

During the hearing at the Old Bailey, the defendants also spoke to confirm their ages and British nationality.

Father Kenneth was said to be a professor who works as a consultant and enjoys a high status within the Nigerian foreign ministry.

The case was adjourned until a five-week trial which is due to start on February 4 next year.
