Viewpark care home set for refurbishment

Residents of Muirpark Care Home in Viewpark are on the move this month as the facility closes for refurbishment.

Last December North Lanarkshire Council had planned to award a contract worth £1.3 million to Airdrie-based Gilchrist and Lynn Limited to carry out concurrent refurbishments of Monklands House Care Home in Plains and Muirpark in Laburnum Road, which provides accommodation for up to 30 people.

At a meeting of the housing and social work services committee it was decided to award Gilchrist and Lynn a contract worth £734,000 to only carry out the work at Monklands and look at Muirpark at a later date.

With the refurbishment of Monklands now complete attention turns to Muirpark with the planned work set to include the provision of en-suite facilities within all existing bedrooms as well as a new dining room, main lounge and assessment kitchen.

A contract will be awarded when the housing and social work committee considers a new tendering process on Thursday, October 28.

Head of social work development Duncan MacKay said: “Refurbishment work is expected to get underway in early October with completion by next spring.”
