Mental Health Jobless Fears
More than 1,000 people in South Yorkshire could find themselves jobless due to mental health problems, according to a national charity. The Shaw Trust estimates that as many as 955 people in Sheffield, and more than 400 in Rotherham, could find themselves unable to work in the next six months.
The charity, which helps people with disabilities find work, says most will be classed as suffering from stress – but in reality they may be suffering a deeper mental problem.
“This is costing British businesses £9 billion a year in wages alone,” said Tim Cooper, Shaw Trust’s Managing Director. “The cost to productivity is just as massive.”
