£39,813 – £42,687
Justice Social Work Community Team West are looking to recruit a Permanent Social Worker to cover the areas of Wigtownshire and the Stewartry. You will undertake the core duties of Justice Social Work, namely the provision of a social work service to the Courts, the supervision of offenders on statutory orders, and the delivery of personal change initiatives.
Justice Social Work provides a social work service to those appearing before the criminal courts, to those who have offended and who are subject to supervision in the community, and to those in prison. As part of the Social Work Department we are partners in the protection of children and vulnerable adults.
Our team is committed to a high professional standard of practice and continuous development. Significant progress has been made in the professional areas of assessment and in the delivery of behaviour change programmes that challenge offending behaviour and support achievement of positive outcomes. In addition we are partners in the management of high risk offenders through the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements.
Responsible to the Senior Social Worker, you will be a member of a team that is involved in the delivery of these services. You will required to have good personal and professional skills and an ability to relate effectively to service users, their families, and be experienced in working in partnership with a range of other agencies in the delivery of services.
A Dip SW/CQSW/CSS qualification or equivalent is essential. You must also be registered with the SSSC or be in the process of registration and willing to maintain registered status. You will have demonstrable knowledge of and interest in Justice Social Work.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
The selection process for this post will include a formal interview followed by an informal meeting with people with lived experience of the Justice Social Work service.
