An exciting opportunity has arisen for 4.5 x Senior Social Work Practitioner/Mental Health Officer (MHO) to join the Social Work Mental Health Team in Kirkintilloch. The Senior Social Work Practitioner post sits within Social Work Services and is part of East Dunbartonshire Council’s HSCP.
The post will be responsible for the day-to-day role of Mental Health Officer, taking part on the MHO duty rota and the subsequent preparation of statutory reports under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 aswell as the preparation of MHO reports under The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000. The post will also require some care management responsibilities under Self Directed Support.
An enthusiastic and motivated individual, you will have sound knowledge and experience of the statutory duties in terms of the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Adult’s with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000, as well as good communication skills, written and verbal and the ability to work well as part of a team.
You will require strong leadership skills to lead on a specific area of service development within the team, aswell as supporting best practice across other social work teams. You will have a track record of successful multi-disciplinary working, leadership skills along with experience of partnership working with the voluntary sector to establish positive outcomes for individuals with severe and enduring mental illness.

You must have a QSW/DipSW and hold a PG Cert Mental Health Officer along with significant post qualifying experience in Social Work/Mental Health and be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
You will require completing a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) prior to commencing in this role.
It is essential that the post holder holds a full driving licence.

Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.
Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment.
In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by HR Services Lead.
Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.
The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
