Senior Safeguarding and Player Welfare Manager
£38,000 – £45,000 per annum

Based in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales (hybrid working)

Not only can it provide opportunities for enjoyment and achievement, but it can also develop valuable qualities such as self-esteem, leadership and teamwork. These positive effects will only be felt if sport is in the right hands, in the hands of those who place the welfare of all children first and adopt practices that support, protect, and empower them.
The Senior Safeguarding and Player Welfare Manager role is key to ensure that children and adults at risk have a positive experience in sport through effective safeguarding policies and practices as well as overseeing the welfare of elite players.
Key areas of responsibility –
* Develop and manage the implementation of the organisations Safeguarding Strategy in accordance with key performance indicators.
* Develop organisational awareness of safeguarding via training and development programmes.
* Support safer recruitment & disciplinary processes relating to children or adults at risk to ensure operations are compliant and defensible, including leading/supporting investigations into allegations and concerns as required.
* Attend ‘multi-disciplinary meetings’ and participate in/lead working groups, as required.
* Development and updating of policies, practices and procedures.
* Embed a safeguarding culture within the organisation.
* Lead on consultation with key stakeholders, including ensuring the voice of the child is heard across the organisation, to drive safeguarding vision forward, including the preparation and submission of evidence-based audits.
* Manage accurate safeguarding & wellbeing record keeping processes at the organisation including cleansing data in line with Data Protection regulations.
* Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders on safeguarding concerns and cases.
* Horizon scan and keep abreast of key developments within safeguarding across all sectors and ensure updates and changes are made as a result.
* Line manage the organisation’s Safeguarding, Player Welfare, & Education Team.
Knowledge/Experience
* Experience in front-line safeguarding, in either sport, social work, education, policing or medical.
* Expert knowledge of the safeguarding legislation and safe working practices, including the responsibilities of sports organisations and associated agencies including awareness of Wales-specific legislation.
* Knowledge of local and national agencies that provide support for children and adults at risk;
* Experience of applying quality assurance processes
* Experience of leading investigations into allegations of abuse and/or misconduct
* Experience of handling large amounts of sensitive data and upholding the principles of confidentiality
* Proven work experience as a team leader.
* Experience of advising colleagues on applying safeguarding principles to wider business functions
* Knowledge of recognising and defining poor practise and abuse including thresholds of abuse.

Knowledge of HR policies and practices;
Experience of managing a statutory or similar safeguarding and wellbeing service;
Experience of providing advocacy support to children or adults at risk;
Experience of conflict management
Role specific requirements –
* The ability to work outside of normal working hours.
* The ability to speak Welsh would be advantageous.
* Educated to Degree level or equivalent, or equivalent work experience.
