To apply for this role you must have Children and Youn People's Workforce Level 2 or 3
The primary role of the Residential Support Worker (RSW) is to work as part of the staff team, under the direction and supervision of the home management team, to provide care to the children and young people placed at the designated children's home, in accordance with regulatory and legal requirements and standards (e.g. Children's Homes Regulations) and Company Policies and Procedures.
Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people is paramount at all times.
The homes operate 24-hours each day, every day of the year, requiring round-the-clock staffing and management.
Overall responsibility for the home lies with the designated Registered Manager. RSW's will assume a level of responsibility for specific tasks according to training and experience but must always keep in mind that even seemingly simple tasks (e.g. escorting a young person to the local shops; supervising two young people in an activity within the home) involve a high degree of responsibility.
RSW's undergo a period of Induction, followed up by Mandatory Training (e.g. Food and Hygiene), to provide the basic skills and knowledge for the role. This training will be supported by regular management supervision. RSW's are encouraged to seek additional advice, guidance and supervision as required, but will ultimately be held responsible for their decisions and conduct when caring for children and young people.
All members of staff are required to adhere to Company policies, procedures and principles; professional codes of practice (where appropriate); terms and conditions of employment; and to seek additional and appropriate supervision and guidance as necessary in order to fulfil the requirements of the post.
At all times the safety and welfare of the children and young people are paramount and must take priority over all other work-related activities.
– Adhere to the shift-pattern, including sleeping-in duties as part of the staff duty rota.
– Attend house staff team meetings.
– Treat each child/young person with respect and dignity in way that promotes feelings of trust and safety.
– Assist young people in obtaining relevant vocational training and employment (e.g. assisting in the completion of application forms; accompanying to interviews etc).
– Help maintain systems of storing and filing written records.
– Plan, organise and prioritise time, activities, and workload to meet required work objectives
