Are you ready to make a positive impact on mental health services in Birmingham?
Birmingham Mind is seeking a compassionate individual to join our organisation as a Peer Mentor.
Peer Mentors support service users on their emotional journey, and form therapeutic alliances to share ways of coping, understanding and nurturing hope and inspirations.
You will be joining our team at Rookery Gardens, supporting service users who are experiencing mental health difficulties and are currently residing in non-acute in-patient care. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team ran jointly with the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust. The team will be made up of both clinical and psychological professions, and Birmingham Mind staff, therefore applicants must be ready to work co-operatively within a multi-disciplinary team.
You will need to be flexible due to shift patterns, which will include evenings and weekends. Shift patterns include 7:00am to 3:00pm, and 1:00pm to 9:00pm, with a rolling rota in place.
We are looking for a Peer Mentor with living experience of mental health difficulties. You will have gained a level of insight into your mental health experience and be ready to talk about them openly.
It is important that applicants have reached a period of stability and can manage their mental health and wellbeing, in order for them to be ready for this role. We are looking for someone who is ready to use their experience to support and inspire service users in their recovery journey.
You will need to have excellent communication skills, with a good understanding of the individual recovery journey and the issues facing people suffering with mental health difficulties. We need a Peer Mentor who is able to share the values of our organisation and is passionate about our vision of “Better Mental Health for All” in Birmingham.
