This is an exciting opportunity to join a creative team supporting adults with autism and complex learning disabilities. You will work as part of the Autism Connections Team providing specialist advice and support to our day and respite staff teams supporting them to provide person centred flexible services to adults with autism and complex learning disabilities.
The main duties of the post will include providing direct support to staff teams working with adults with autism. Providing direct support both in 1:1 situations and in small groups to adults with autism and complex learning disabilities, this may include duties relating to: personal care, health needs, challenging behaviour etc. You will also be involved in the implementation of person-centred care and risk plans and implementation and evaluation of service requests. You will assist in the development and delivery of imaginative and innovative practice, approaches and methodology associated to supporting adults with autism and complex learning disabilities.
You must have a knowledge and understanding of the needs of people with autism and complex learning disabilities and the ability to: complete written and electronic records, care plans; undertake risk assessments; provide personal care and record daily care notes etc, with a knowledge of computer IT packages.
You will have effective organisational and interpersonal skills and able to work on your own initiative with the ability to work closely and share practice across a range of teams and agencies. You will have effective communication skills which you will use when dealing with service users, carers and other professionals in supporting individuals across the full spectrum of autism and learning disabilities. You will be skilled in participating in training, including presenting materials.
You must have a person-centred approach and be enthusiastic, motivated, courteous & respectful with a pleasant, positive, professional attitude. You will have a responsible approach to sensitive information and a positive view of the welfare of people and families experiencing difficulties.
It is essential that you are willing to work towards obtaining SVQ level 3 in Social Care. Possession of this qualification would be desirable.
You must also be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and have flexibility to work across the Social Work Service.
