Webwatch: Iriss to facilitate webinar on domestic abuse and sexual violence in rural settings

Working to tackle domestic abuse, support the victims and their children, and deal effectively with perpetrators is a complex, multi-agency activity in all parts of Scotland. However, when it takes place on one of our many islands there are particular challenges and barriers that must be considered.

On 25 February the Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services (Iriss) will facilitate a one-hour discussion that explores the experiences of professionals in Orkney and Argyll and Bute, as well as best practice and initiatives that have been designed to help.

Speakers include Mandy Sheridan, who will provide an overview of the challenges experienced by practitioners, and Zelda Bradley, who will focus on her work to support survivors affected by sexual violence in remote communities.

The two speakers

Mandy Sheridan has worked in Social Work for 35 years, is currently a Service Improvement Officer with the Argyll and Bute HSCP and is the Chair for the Argyll and Bute VAWG Partnership.

Zelda Bradley has worked in the Third Sector for the last 15 years, is currently Service Manager of Orkney Rape & Sexual Assault Service (ORSAS) and Vice-Chair for Orkney Domestic Abuse Forum (inc. VAWP)
