New books: New textbooks on learning disability nursing practice
A University of West London (UWL) academic has published two new textbooks about learning disability nursing practice. Professor Bob Gates from INSPIRE at UWL, has worked with colleagues and people with learning disabilities in the sector to develop these important new learning resources.
Learning Disability Nursing at a Glance is a study companion from the publishers of the at a Glance series. It addresses key principles underpinning contemporary learning disability nursing practice, and relates them to key clinical practice issues, and is aimed at nursing, health and social care students, as well as registered nurses.
Published by CRC Press, Learning Disability Nursing: Modern Day Practice, provides a solid undergraduate text to understand how to care for, and support people with learning disabilities in a range of health and social care settings. Professor Gates developed this book with Dr Kay Mafuba, an Associate Professor at the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare.
Professor Gates said, ‘These books are essential reading for anyone studying learning disabilities as part of a nursing, health, or social care course. I hope wider audiences, such as families and carers, will also find them helpful. These books have unique features including being benchmarked against NMC-UK and An Bord Alranais competencies, as well involving people with learning disabilities in their development.’
