Proposals for an Autism Strategy: Consultation Report: The Scottish Government’s Response to the Consultation
The aim of the strategy was to identify the current gaps in the provision of autism services and to look at ways to improve the quality of services for those with autism. Previously, autism was a joint policy with learning disability. The Scottish Autism Spectrum Disorder ( ASD) Reference Group led a range of initiatives between 2002 and 2008, which had a positive impact on the quality of life of many individuals. However, it is recognised that further work is required to ensure that the needs of individuals and families affected by autism are appropriately met in the future. As a result, the ASD Reference Group was reconvened by the Minister for Public Health and Sport in February 2010 and developed a draft national strategy. The national strategy sets out a framework for action over the next 5 years, identifying key actions to improve services and support for people on the autistic spectrum. This is the Scottish Government’s response to the consultation on outline proposals for an Autism Strategy.
