Disability Equality: Promoting Positive Attitudes Through the Teaching of the National Curriculum

Research findings illustrate that under a third of young people have learned about disability issues in the past year, despite the Disability Equality Duty (DED) coming into force in 2006, which includes a requirement to promote positive attitudes towards disabled people. Surveys of teachers and pupils highlight the need for disability equality to become part of the inspection regime and for it to be integrated across the National Curriculum.
