New apprenticeship integrates health and social care services
Apprentices will work for four months in a hospital (either Ipswich or West Suffolk), four months for Home First or Suffolk Community Healthcare in a community care setting, and four months at Leading Lives, a social enterprise which provides support for people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, multiple and complex needs.
The apprenticeship is being run in conjunction with the Ipswich and East Suffolk and West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Groups, Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust, West Suffolk Hospital Foundation Trust, Suffolk Community Health Care, Leading Lives, Home First, Suffolk County Council and Care Careers Suffolk, with funding from Health Education England.
The apprentices will be employed by the National Skills Academy for Health’s Apprenticeship Training Agency.
Vic Fennell, Apprenticeship Coordinator for Ipswich and East Suffolk and West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Groups said: “The rotations will provide valuable work experience within a variety of settings that will enable the learners to share good practice in each of their placements.
“I believe that this project is a positive approach to raising awareness of role within the health and social care sector and look forward to them starting their career within this sector”
Emma White, Project Coordinator for Care Careers Suffolk, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to get a variety of work experiences in the health and social care sectors, and it’s the first time it has been done in Suffolk integrating health and social care.”
Apprentices must be at least 17-and-a-half years old and interviews are being held in August with a view to appointing successful apprentices to start in September.
