Council in search for rising stars to join apprenticeship scheme

The search is on for 13 more talented people to join the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead’s apprenticeship scheme.

The council’s Grow Our Own employment skills, training and advice service is launching its second year of apprenticeships across various services including  youth services and health & social care.

East Berkshire College will serve as the learning provider for the scheme which will also allow the apprentices to gain a Level 2 or 3 nationally recognised qualification in areas such as business and administration by attending classes part-time.

A special apprenticeships recruitment day will be held in the Council Chamber, Maidenhead Town Hall, on Thursday 10 July from 11am to 3pm when residents can find out more about the roles on offer and get help with the application process.

Cllr Christine Bateson, lead member for community partnerships, said: “The aim of the apprenticeship scheme is to help reduce levels of unemployment in the borough and to equip people with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to flourish in their chosen career.

“It’s about learning the job hands on, gaining a qualification and increasing chances of gaining full-time permanent employment. Who knows, we could find a future managing director or leader of the council.

“I encourage anyone interested in learning more about our apprenticeship scheme to come along to our apprenticeships recruitment day.”

The apprenticeships are open to all to apply. The hours of work are 37 hours per week including attendance at East Berkshire College. A weekly wage of £98.05 will apply, the national minimum wage for apprentices.
