Volunteering fair provides good opportunity to gain experience with leading charities
The event, organised by the University of Westminster’s Corporate Social Responsibility team together with the Students’ Union, aims at offering students access to professional and work experience opportunities. It is a good starting point for attendees to see diverse charitable organisations offering work experience in a wide range of industries. The Volunteering Fair will be open to all staff and students.
Close to 50 charities will be on site to offer a large variety of volunteering and work placement opportunities covering a diverse range of areas of interest and, as it is the case with most volunteering opportunities, offering flexibility which allows different levels of commitment.
The fair will help students learn about the benefits of work experience, gain an understanding of the different types of volunteering work, find out more about the top skills employers look for in students and explore different career options.
During the fair, students will be enabled to chat with representatives from renowned UK charities and organisations including Diabetes UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Save the Children, Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers, Alzheimer’s Society, Oxfam, and Human Appeal.
Berekhet Berakhy, from the University’s Student Volunteering Services, said about the event: “This fair offers students the opportunity to find out what they can do to make the most out of their time at the University and how they can do it. Every minute spent finding out more about the opportunities on offer are an investment into their wellbeing, their University experience and their future.”
Last year, the Volunteering and Work Experience fair brought together over 500 students with more than 50 members of the public representing 36 charities on site to inform and offer attendees tips and advice on volunteering.
The event will take place in the Deep End and the Old Gym, Regent Street Campus, on Wednesday 20 February from 12:30-3:30pm.
