Work-life balance prized ahead of career opportunities and perks for job hunters

Work-life balance is one of the most important aspects of a job for candidates, ahead of career opportunities and perks, a study has suggested.

Jobs site Glassdoor said a survey of 2,000 adults showed the importance of firms offering staff a decent balance between work and home lives.

The company drew up a list of best jobs for work-life balance, including sales development reps, researchers, marketing assistants and “engagement manager”.

Amanda Stansell of Glassdoor said: “Not everyone prioritises money, so if you are looking for a job offering a good work-life balance then these roles definitely stand out. However, many of them also offer well above average salaries for the UK, proving it is possible to find a job that pays good money yet doesn’t take over your life.

“Despite very few jobs in the UK being advertised explicitly as ‘flexible’, many of the jobs in our ranking can be found in a wide range of industries, which goes to show that there is potential to keep a reasonable limit on working hours with all sorts of different employers.”

A recent Glassdoor survey found that two out of five employees said they would rather have reduced working hours so they could come in to work late or leave early, instead of a designated lunch break.
