Oxford Brookes student to publish book for young adults to reduce mental health stigma
A student at Oxford Brookes University is launching a book aimed at reducing stigma around mental health issues for young adults.
Hannah Todd came up with the idea of producing a book of letters titled Hello Me, It’s You, as part of her final major project for her degree in Publishing.
Hannah said: “I have always found mental health and incredibly important subject. I have had friends and family members who have dealt with various issues themselves and then last year I was told that I have mild depression and anxiety. I struggled with it a huge amount and found the experience incredibly isolating and hard to handle. If I’d had something like what I’m hoping this book will be then I may have found it all a little more bearable.”
The project has been entirely run via social media, calling on people aged between 17 and 24 to write letters to their 16 year-old selves about their experiences with mental health.
Hannah is graduating this summer and is aiming to launch the book on 10 October 2016; World Mental Health Day.
More about the project and how to get involved can be found on the Hello You, It’s Me website.
