Skills Academy to host free webinar on Dementia Fellowship programme
The Dementia Fellowship (DF) programme offers participants the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills needed to create better dementia care. The programme is aimed at building a grassroots network of Dementia Fellows in Primary and Community Care striving for best practice and supporting each other to improve the quality of care for people with dementia and their families over the coming years.
The Goals of the Dementia Fellowship programme are to:
- Improve people’s clinical knowledge-base, and sense of competence and confidence, as clinicians and practitioners offering dementia care
- Improve people’s awareness of and ability to use change management and service improvement approaches to improve local dementia care
- Improve people’s ability and confidence to lead clinical or service improvements for people living with dementia
With a focus on developing clinical understanding, leadership, and change management skills, the Dementia Fellowship programme was commissioned by Health Education England Kent Surrey and Sussex and was designed and delivered in partnership with Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
Seventy-five healthcare professionals completed three cohorts of this multi-disciplinary educational programme between March 2014 and June 2015.
In this webinar the following questions will be addressed:
- What was the change the Dementia Fellowship was aiming to achieve in terms of initial aspirations and longer-term ambitions?
- What constituted the design of the DF educational model, and what informed this design?
- What components of the programme have specifically helped DF participants in the three areas of: – their clinical practice in Dementia care; their change management & service improvement skills; their ability and confidence to lead on making improvements for people living with dementia?
- What changes in relation to dementia care/services have DF participants implemented in their work-areas during/since completion of the programme?
- What have been the facilitators and barriers in developing or implementing these changes?
- How might the benefits from the DF programme and changes to service delivery be sustained and communicated or delivered more widely? How might the programme help further
