Talk explores support in caring for people with mental health difficulties

Supporting families in the care of people with serious mental health difficulties will be the topic of a talk at The Hive in Worcester next week.

Professor Eleanor Bradley, of the University of Worcester, will talk about involving families more in decisions that are taken.

It is the latest talk in the University of Worcester Professorial Lecture Series, which are open to all members of the public, and takes place on Wednesday, May 6 at 6pm.

Professor Bradley said: “A central principle of mental healthcare policy over the last three decades has been the delivery of care closer to home, and a significant amount of support for adults with serious mental illness is provided by family. Despite this, family members continue to feel marginalised, particularly at times of crisis, for example with hospital admission.

“This talk will consider the impact this can have on families, provide an overview of research currently underway, instigate discussion about practical possibilities and highlight anticipated benefits of an inclusive approach to adult mental healthcare.”

The lecture is free but booking is advised. Tickets can be booked online at www.thehiveworcester.org
