More than 200 apply for Northamptonshire’s social work acadmey
Northamptonshire County Council’s new Social Work Academy have been inundated with over 200 applicants attempting to secure one of 15 course places.
The academy, which launched in October 2014, offers graduates a year-long intensive training and support programme but crucially more support and a lighter workload to others training for a career in social care.
Selected graduates will have high levels of support and mentoring and a phased approach to the volume and complexity of their workload. At the end of their year at the academy, the hope is that they’ll have the skills, experience and confidence to join the councils existing social care workforce.
For the first six months, graduates are be based in a dedicated learning environment and spend a minimum of one day a week in a designated social work team. For the second half of the programme, they’ll be mostly based in their social work team with structured outreach support from the academy.
With more spring intake already full, the academy are now in the process of opening applications for the October intake.
