Revised Occupational Standards for CYP health services launched
Skills for Health has launched the revised National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Children & Young People’s Health Services.
The Standards were revised by Skills for Health as part of a UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) funded project and were reviewed against their applicability for those working in Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and substance use services for children and young people.
The NOS remain a generic suite of NOS for individuals working with children and young people and the suite title has been changed from Children’s Services to Children and Young People’s Health Services to more accurately reflect the focus of the NOS.
NOS can be used for a variety of workforce activities to support employers and employees, examples include creating role profiles and job descriptions, developing education and training programmes, services design and delivery and a range of workforce development activities.
Although the Standards are not mandatory it is envisaged that they will be adopted and developed as a powerful resource for those delivering a skilled and high-quality children and young people’s health services.
Skills for Health are the Sector Skills Council for health across the four UK countries. They work with employers and Awarding Organisations to develop health related competence/NOS based qualifications for health occupations for the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales (CQFW) and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs).
