New data released this week by the Department for Education has shown a continuing upward trend in the number of looked after children in England. There were 65,520 looked after children as at 31 March 2011, an increase of 9% since 2007.
Residents in a nursing home in Armagh have been rescued by emergency services after a fire broke out overnight. Police officers helped 27 elderly people to leave Greenpark private nursing home on the Keady Road, when the blaze broke out in a switch room just before 3am on Friday.
