Chance to have say on new health and social care qualifications in Wales

A new consulatation is offering the chance to have a say about the development of new health, social care and childcare qualifications in Wales.

In July 2016, Qualifications Wales published their report on the sector review of qualifications and the qualification system in health and social care, which includes childcare and playwork.

In that report they committed to overseeing the development of a new suite of qualifications to meet the needs of learners in Wales. Having considered how they might best meet this commitment they are now considering imposing a ‘restriction’ on a new suite of qualifications for the sector. This would mean that from September 2019 there would only be one approved version of each of those qualifications approved for use on funded programmes of learning in Wales.

Qualifications Wales have produced a consultation document to explain the options they have evaluated and why they favour this approach.

This consultation is an opportunity for awarding bodies, learning providers and any other interested parties to provide feedback on their preferred approach. Qualifications Wales would be grateful if you would read the consultation document and take a few minutes to answer the survey questions, both of which can be accessed here.

Responses will be considered when determining their next course of action. The consultation closes on October 5.
