Public Health Wales to relocate 500 staff to new shared base in Cardiff
Public Health Wales is relocating over 500 staff from its 10 South East Wales offices to a shared base in no 2 Capital Quarter, Cardiff.
The move follows a review of the organisation’s accommodation needs in South East Wales in 2012, which found it would be more efficient to co-locate as many staff as practical.
Breast Test Wales, provided by Public Health Wales, will stay at 18 Cathedral Road, although non clinical staff will move to allow extra room for the public using the services. Contact details for key services such as Stop Smoking Wales and Healthy Working Wales will not change.
Huw George, Deputy Chief Executive for Public Health Wales, said: “One of the objectives of the project was to promote staff collaboration and learning. This site has good public transport links for our staff and stakeholders and has modern, collaborative workspaces that will enable us all to work more efficiently together.”
The Public Health Wales project team has also worked with key partners to make the building fully accessible to staff and stakeholders, consulting the RNIB and seeking advice from accessibility specialists, Accessible Wales, who gave an extremely positive access review.
Sally Attwood, Programme Manager, said: “I am extremely proud of the way we have succeeded in fitting out the four floors. By maintaining our commitment to re-using furniture and using re-manufactured items, we have secured an excellent design that meets our needs and is value for money.
“We have also been able to work with organisations based locally in Wales who are providing us with good quality furniture and fittings while at the same time providing valuable training and experience for people who have struggled to find work.
“The new building has met the brief of providing a collaborative workspace for our staff in a modern and sustainable setting: we look forward to welcoming colleagues and stakeholders to the building.”
