Sanctions lifted at Neath Port Talbot children’s services

A new report from the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) has found significant improvements in Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council’s (NPTCBC’s) Children’s Services meaning that a Serious Concerns Protocol can now be lifted.

The council department was made subject to the sanction in November 2012. A further inspection in November 2013 resulted in the protocol remaining in place but at the recent inspection, which took place in February 2015, NPTCBC showed sufficient improvement resulting in the sanction being lifted.

Announcing the decision, CSSIW Chief Inspector, Imelda Richardson said: “Significant progress has been made by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council’s (NPTCBC’s) elected members and staff to improve the quality and consistency of services for children and young people in need of support or protection.

“Whilst significant improvements have been made, the local authority must remain committed to continuing to improve the quality and consistency of services to children and their families in Neath Port Talbot.

“We are committed to supporting improvement in the quality of care and support that is delivered to Wales’ most vulnerable people and we will continue to work with local authorities that are not meeting expected standards – people are our priority.”
