Welsh pair charged with care home neglect
Two care workers have been charged with wilful neglect of a vulnerable adult and perverting the course of justice.
The charges relate to an incident involving an 88-year-old woman at Zoar Residential Home in Tonypandy in March last year.
The privately-run home is was registered in 1990 to provide care for up to 30 people over the age of 65, including those with dementia.
The latest inspection report from December 2013 said the home lacked in the areas staffing, management, care planning and risk assessments.
The Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) said these failings impacted on “people’s choices and preferences as to how they would like their care to be delivered, what their preferred routines are or how they like to spend their time.
“Staff only had the social services unified assessment to inform them of people’s care needs. This is unsatisfactory as the assessment does not give details as to how care is to be carried out, only that there are particular needs.”
The pair will appear at Pontypridd Magistrates’ Court in February.
