Survey seeks views of older people in Wales

The Wales Audit Office is seeking the views of over 55’s on the services that are most important to remaining living independently.

From providing good quality information, advice and support to healthy living and access to social activities and leisure services, the survey is asking the people of Wales how their local authorities are managing to provide these important community based services.

A short survey to find out which council services are important to continue to live independently and are encouraging anyone who has used a service, either directly provided by their local council or indirectly paid for through council funds, to take part. Once complete the information gathered will help shape and develop the final report to be published later this year.

Auditor General for Wales, Huw Vaughan Thomas said: “The number of older people in Wales has been steadily rising over the past 25 years and is predicted to increase significantly.

“Given this demographic change it is vital that local authorities continue to prioritise services for older people that provide value, are accessible and importantly help people remain independent in older age.

“Delivering services in the community that allow people to remain connected are vital for the health and wellbeing of older people and we are keen to get views from all over Wales so we can create a true picture of where things can improve and how we can help make these services better.”
