Wrexham drug and alcohol hub officially opened
A Welsh Government-funded centre in Wrexham to support people who with drug and alcohol addiction has been officially opened by the Deputy Minister for Health Vaughan Gething.
Champions’ House will offer a supportive environment for people seeking help to recover. It will offer support from a local recovery network for anyone who is looking towards a future without addiction.
The centre, run by third sector group CAIS, will support referrals for an estimated 1,500 people, helping those who have recently left structured treatment. The first and second floors of the building will be used by CAIS and local criminal justice staff working on projects across the Wrexham area. Services available include counselling, therapeutic interventions, a drug intervention programme and the Change Step Military Veteran’s service.
Mr Gething said: “I am pleased the Welsh Government has been able to provide more than £500,000 for this new facility for people who are looking to escape the trap of addiction, which can have devastating consequences for them, their family and the wider community.
“Champions’ House will be open outside office hours and at weekends and include facilities for families, carers and children. I wish the team here every success as they start work providing these important services.”
Clive Wolfendale, chief executive of CAIS, said: “Champions’ House will provide a welcoming home for service users, voluntary groups and other agencies working towards Recovery in Wrexham. We are all very grateful for the support of the Welsh Government in the development of this project.”
