Ceredigion residential home forced to close due to lack of staff

Ceredigion Council has announced that it is going to temporarily close Awel Deg Residential Home in Llandysul.

As a result of problems in the staffing of the home the number of residents has over time fallen to seven. And now the Council felt it was in the best interests of the remaining residents to relocate them to other facilities.

Interim arrangements have been made to ensure continuing support and care while the Council arranges the transfer of residents to another care home.

It is hoped this will take place over the course of the next week to ten days.

Meetings are ongoing with the unions to explore how the Council can ensure that members of staff are dealt with fairly and equitably.

The Leader of Ceredigion County Council, Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn, said: “This has been an extremely difficult decision, but a crucial one in terms of ensuring that our residents are safe and well. We will immediately begin the process of planning the care provision in the area, with the intention of continuing to provide high-quality services to older people in Ceredigion.”
