100 jobs to be created in the home care sector

A CARE firm is taking on 100 new staff after securing major contracts to provide support in people’s homes.

Abacare Care Agency in Colwyn Bay is recruiting domiciliary and live-in social care worker positions across North Wales to support elderly and vulnerable people.

The firm is expanding as local authorities and the health board look to provide more care at home – rather than moving people to care homes.

Abacare, who currently employ 102 staff, have been awarded a number of new contracts across the region and now need extra staff to fill these positions.

Last month the Daily Post revealed up to 25,000 care jobs could be created in North Wales over the next two decades due to an ageing population with chronic health conditions. The sector is already worth £1billion to the local economy.

Gillian Roderigues, recruitment manager at Abacare, said: “We are looking for new recruits to help make a difference within communities by caring for individuals seeking extra support.

“It is important that people who need extra support are able to remain in their own homes so they can live an independent lifestyle and not have to move into a residential home.

“In the current economic climate we are thrilled to be able to offer these vacancies. We are looking for passionate, committed and caring individuals to receive training and begin a career in the industry.”

Abacare operates a professional Care Management Team that is committed to providing high quality care to individuals in their own homes.

Gillian added: “All of the successful applicants receive free training, which includes a company induction, first aid, dementia awareness, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users.

“Working as a social care worker is great for an individual’s personal development and we offer all of our recruits 24 hour support.

“It is a fantastic industry to be a part of and we hope lots of people sign up to become social care workers.

“We also offer the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF), formerly known as National Vocational Qualifications, to all our team members who show commitment, reliability and true passion.

“We provide a great support network for all of our carers.”
