Future of Dinas Powys dementia care home to be discussed
A CRUCIAL meeting on the future of the only residential care home in the Vale of Glamorgan for people with dementia is being held tonight.
A three-month public consultation on the future of the Bryneithin care home, in Dinas Powys, highlighted widespread opposition to any plans to close the home.
Many have called for it to be developed, expanded and possibly turned into a centre of excellence for the care of people with dementia.
Councillors are meeting tonight to discuss a report on the public consultation and a request from Philip Evans, Vale director of social services, for more time to consider the various options.
Meanwhile, Plaid Cymru has demanded an assurance that the home will not be closed.
In his report to tonight’s meeting of the social care and health scrutiny committee, Mr Evans says: “From the consultation responses received, it is clear that there is considerable stakeholder opinion which opposes any prospect of closing Bryneithin, at least until a viable alternative service of equally high standard is in place.”
