Swansea council social care staff misconduct shock figures

FORTY members of staff at Swansea’s social services department have faced disciplinary action in the past 24 months. And half of those employees were reprimanded following complaints from the very people they were supposed to be helping.

The shocking figures obtained through the Freedom of Information Act show that over a two-year period, 14 people in total were sacked by the authority.

However, Swansea Council remain adamant the figures only demonstrate their efforts to protect the public.

A spokesman for the council said: “The City and County of Swansea recognises that the safety of service users is of paramount importance.

“We remain hugely appreciative of the vast majority of our staff who are dedicated, caring and professional.

“We believe the significant proportion of disciplinaries that relate to matters of procedure or practice strongly indicate our vigilance against the development of situations that could be detrimental to service users.”
