SCIE strengthens its work in Wales
The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has stepped up its work in Wales with the appointment of an experienced Practice Development Manager, Vicky Allen, to focus on work in the region.
Vicky will work with SCIE’s key stakeholders in Wales – including the Care Council for Wales, the Welsh Assembly Government and the Social Services Improvement Agency – to develop good practice and ensure that social care practitioners and service users benefit from SCIE’s work.
Speaking about Vicky’s appointment, SCIE’s Chief Executive, Bill Kilgallon, said: “It’s very important that SCIE recognises the social and political circumstances of every area we work in as we continue to influence social care practice. SCIE has developed some substantial relationships with our partners in Wales and we welcome the chance to strengthen our work there with a dedicated member of staff.
“Vicky’s appointment reinforces SCIE’s drive to establish focused mechanisms for consultation and feedback. We hope to benefit from Vicky’s experience and her access to the social care sector in Wales to ensure that its views and priorities are reflected in our work.”
Vicky Allen is seconded from Denbighshire Social Services where she has worked as a commissioning and planning officer in children’s services. She is a Welsh speaker and will be based in North Wales with the Care Council for Wales.
Speaking about her role at SCIE, Vicky said: “I am really pleased to join SCIE and represent its interests in Wales. My role involves collating evidence about good practice so that the positive aspects of social care in Wales can influence knowledge and guidance for all.
“Part of my remit is also to work with regional social care partnerships to develop people management practice and policy. I’m looking forward to using SCIE’s resources to promote workforce development in Wales – improving social care services for all who work with or use them.”
Vicky’s projects include the development of an electronic Common Assessment Framework for children and young people in Wales in partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government.
