Inquest to take place into river death of two-year-old Kiara Moore

An inquest will take place into the death of a two-year-old girl who was in a car that plunged into a Welsh river.

Kiara Moore died after being recovered from a silver Mini in the River Teifi in Cardigan on March 19, days before her third birthday.

Initially her family feared the car had been stolen with Kiara inside when her mother, Kim Rowland, returned to find it missing.

Police were called while the family appealed for help locating the car, which had been parked outside an activity centre.

A search revealed the car was in the river a short distance away from where it had last been seen.

Dyfed-Powys Police later said there would be no charges in relation to the “tragic incident”.

Kiara’s father Jet Moore runs an outdoor adventure company from the old Scout Hall, near where the vehicle was recovered from the river.

In a Facebook post, which was later removed, Mr Moore wrote: “They got in the car to go home. Sat on bank card which snapped and needed money to get home etc.

“Went back to the office to get money from the desk and came back to no car. Looked in the river no signs. So we thought she and the car had been taken.

“The police found the car a while later and went way beyond the call of duty jumping in and pulling her out.

“They tried to revive her for hours but unfortunately could not. Everyone done their best.”

Kiara’s inquest will be heard in Aberystwyth on Tuesday morning.
