Updated safeguarding awareness training pack for care workers in Wales

Social Care Wales and WCVA have announced an updated version of their safeguarding awareness guide for training those who work with children and vulnerable adults.

The ‘All Wales Basic Safeguarding Awareness‘ pack, version 3, is now available on the Social Care Wales website.

The pack is designed to be used by trainers providing safeguarding training to the workforce across many settings where there is contact with children and adults at risk. It provides a variety of elements to support participants to:

  •     know their own role in relation to safeguarding adults, children and young people from harm, abuse and neglect
  •     understand how individuals are protected from harm, abuse and neglect
  •     know how to recognise different types of harm, abuse and neglect
  •     know the recent changes to safeguarding as a result of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.

The course is aligned with the ‘All Wales induction framework for health and social care’, and has been mapped to the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the Level 2 Award for Social Care Induction (Wales) unit ‘Induction to Safeguarding in Social Care in Wales’, allowing for accreditation.

Social Care Wales, along with WCVA, have praised the hard work of the original authors Sue Gwynn and Rhys Hughes in revising the pack to reflect the ethos and terminology of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. They also thanked the safeguarding trainers and practitioners who contributed to their consultation.
