No criminal charges over death of two-year-old killed in river car plunge
No criminal charges will be brought in relation to the death of a two-year-old girl who was in a car that plunged into a Welsh river, police have said.
Kiara Moore died after being recovered from a silver Mini in the River Teifi in Cardigan on March 19, just days before her third birthday.
Initially her family feared the car, a silver Mini, had been stolen with her inside when her mother, Kim Rowlands, returned from inside an activity centre to find it gone.
Police were called while pleas were posted on Facebook appealing for help to locate it.
But a search revealed the car was in the river a short distance away from where it had last been seen.
On Monday, Dyfed-Powys Police said its investigation into the “tragic incident” had finished.
A spokeswoman said: “The police investigation into the death of Kiara Moore has concluded.
“There will be no charges in relation to this tragic incident.”
The day after Kiara’s death, her father Jet Moore, who runs an outdoor adventure company from the old Scout Hall, near where the vehicle was recovered from the river, indicated that it had been an accident.
In a Facebook post which was later removed, Mr Moore said: “They got in the car to go home. Sat on bank card which snapped and needed money to get home etc.
“Went back to the office to get money from the desk and came back to no car. Looked in the river no signs. So we thought she and the car had been taken.
“The police found the car a while later and went way beyond the call of duty jumping in and pulling her out.
“They tried to revive her for hours but unfortunately could not. Everyone done their best.”
An inquest is due to be held into Kiara’s death on a date to be fixed.
