Police treating death of baby girl at homeless unit as suspicious
The death of a baby girl after an incident at a homeless families’ unit in June is now being treated as suspicious.
Three-month-old Sophia Williams died in Edinburgh’s Sick Kids Hospital after falling ill at Strathbrock family unit in Broxburn, West Lothian.
She passed away on June 5 after a week of treatment.
Police initially said the death was being treated as “unexplained” but senior detectives have now been brought in to lead the investigation.
Detective Inspector Rory Hamilton, of the major investigations team, said: “We are now treating the death of Sophia Williams as suspicious.
“Our investigation continues as we work towards establishing the full set of circumstances that led to Sophia’s death and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
