Baby dies after ‘unexplained incident’ at West Lothian homeless unit
A three-month-old baby has died after an incident at a family support centre in West Lothian.
Emergency services were called to Strathbrock homeless facility in West Main Street, Broxburn, last Monday after concerns were raised.
Sophia Williams was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh. Police said she had died there on Sunday.
The death is being treated by officers as “unexplained”.
Ch Insp Stevie Dolan said: “First and foremost, I wish to pass on my sincere condolences to Sophia’s family. This is an extremely tragic case and we are treating her death as unexplained at this time.
“I can, however, offer my personal reassurance that a thorough police investigation is now under way in order to establish the full set of circumstances that led up to her untimely passing.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Local officers are currently liaising with medical staff and with family members as they work towards establishing the full set of circumstances.”
