College supported accommodation service in Fife wins inspector praise

A support service for people with additional support needs in Fife has been praised by inspectors from the Care Inspectorate.

Elmwood College supported accommodation service in Cupar provides support for up to 14 people aged over 16 who attend the college.

At a recent inspection, inspectors graded the service as “excellent,” the highest possible grade, across all the areas inspected. This is the second inspection in a row where the service achieved these grades.

Inspectors noted: “The service provides excellent support to students attending courses at Elmwood Campus. This support is both in college and, as tenants, in the college’s three residential villas. This allows people with additional support needs from all over the country to attend and get person-centred support to attain their goals.”

Inspectors also highlighted areas of good practice, adding: “The service has developed its focus on work placements and future planning for students. This included managing expectations for employability. Students have been involved, and taken the lead in, fundraising for activities.

“An educational trip to London was undertaken by students. Student support has been centralised into one area of the college, enabling students to know there is one place to go for all their different advice and support needs.”
