Police involved as elderly care home resident is seriously injured
A police investigation has been launched after a 98-year-old woman was seriously injured at a Edinburgh care home.
The woman, who is a resident at Strachan House in the Blackhall area of the capital, was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries on Sunday.
Police were called to the home, which is owned by Barchester Healthcare, on Monday and said they were liaising with relevant agencies to establish the full circumstances.
A spokesman for Barchester Healthcare said: “At Strachan House care home the health and wellbeing of our residents is always our utmost priority and we take our duty of care very seriously.
“We are working closely with the relevant authorities to investigate this incident. We respect the privacy of our residents in all matters and can therefore make no further comment at this stage.”
Strachan House provides 24-hour nursing care to older people and was last inspected in February 2015. At that time the home received two ‘Excellent’ and two ‘Very Good’ ratings from the Care Inspecorate.
