Glasgow care centre told to improve following damning inspection
Hogganfield Care Centre has been ordered to make improvements after the Care Inspectorate found problems with leadership, care standards, staff monitoring, cleanliness and the safety of the building.
Based on inspectors findings the service was graded as follows:
- Quality of care and support – Grade 1 – Unsatisfactory
- Quality of environment – Grade 2 – Weak
- Quality of staffing – Grade 1 – Unsatisfactory
- Quality of management and leadership – Grade 1 – Unsatisfactory
The centre, which only opened in April, was also found to have not preserved residents’ dignity with belongings not looked after and the manner with which staff responded to requests.
The report said: “Staff regularly used language such as ‘sit down’, ‘stop that’, ‘don’t do that’ when speaking with residents and did not appear to understand that the use of such language could be considered as restricting residents freedom of movement.”
Other problems included ‘unsafe’ medication management and recording of inaccurate records of relating to residents activities.
The centre’s owners, Hogganfield Care Limited, have until the next inspection to act on the recommendations within the report. This is due to happen by December 2015.
The centre caters for 44 residents including two respite or short stay placements.
