PAMIS launch series of events to promote PMLD awareness
This week, 18 – 24 May 2015 is the first ever Profound and Multiple Learning Disability (PMLD) Awareness Week.
Headed by PAMIS, an organisation working solely with people with PMLD and their families for a better life, this campaign is aimed at raising the awareness of PMLD.
People with PMLD are very special people with distinctive needs. They are often excluded from community activities that the rest of us take for granted. With enthusiasm, commitment, some imagination and a ‘can-do’ approach, people with profound and complex disabilities can be included in leisure and cultural activities. It is hoped that by raising awareness in the community of the activities in which people with PMLD can participate, many of the barriers they face will be removed helping them to achieve their rightful place in society.
PAMIS is running events across the five areas where they have offices: Tayside, Fife, Grampian, Greater Glasgow and Clyde and South Lanarkshire with special events running on PAMIS’ 23rd birthday which is on 21 May.
