Quarriers step up campaign on learning disability hate crime

Scottish charity Quarriers are stepping up awareness of their campaign on learning disability hate crime by encouraging people to sign a pledge on their website to show their support.

The charity will also be hosting a workshop for their ‘WAR on Hate Crime: We’re All Responsible’ campaign at the Gathering 2015.

Quarriers say hate crime can be extremely distressing, causing pain, depression, anger, anxiety, lack of confidence and post-traumatic stress. And with 90% of people who have learning disabilities being targets of hate crime, it’s important that people support the issue.

Quarriers’ War on Hate Crime Campaign aims to:

  • Raise awareness through asking people to sign up to support Quarriers’ WAR on Hate Crime.
  • Help people with learning disabilities to recognise and speak up about hate crime.
  • Provide information on what to do if you are a victim of hate crime or witness hate crime taking place.
  • Work to ensure that people with disabilities live full, happy lives free from abuse.
