Glasgow care worker jailed for stealing £32,000
A Glasgow care home worker who stole more than £32,000 from a vulnerable resident has been jailed for 16 months at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Janice McCue, 59, worked at Allarton care home in Partick when she used the victim’s bank card to make cash withdrawals between 2010 and 2013.
McCue was only caught when a colleague read the victims bank statement and noticed large sums of money had been withdrawn.
The matter was reported to her manager, who then called in the police. McCue admitted taking the money but she could not explain how it was spent and none has been recovered.
Part of McCue’s duties were to deal with the victim’s financial affairs which meant she had access to her bank account and pin codes.
The court heard the 44-year-old victim had mental health issues and lived at the care home run by Crossreach.
Sheriff John McCormick sentenced McCue to 16 months in prision admonishing her for taking advantage of a vulnerable person while in a position of trust.
