New £4million care home opens in Glasgow
A new £4 million care facility in Baillieston, Glasgow, that will provide care and support for vulnerable adults with mental health conditions has welcomed its new staff members following the completion of construction work.
The interior design and decoration of The Oaks, a 32-bedroom care home, is now complete. Landscaping will continue on the home during the autumn to create gardens and paths for the residents, staff and visitors to enjoy.
A local recruitment campaign has seen a Care Home Manager, Deputy Manager, and Head Chef being recruited as well as 16 other staff across a range of care and domestic positions including trained nurses and senior care workers. The majority of staff have been recruited from the local area.
They’ll now take part in an intensive training programme before residents are welcomed to the home later in the year.
David Law, the new Care Home Manager, said: “We ran a rigorous local recruitment programme and are pleased to have appointed a highly skilled team of professionals and support staff from the local area. We’ll continue to recruit staff as the care home becomes occupied with residents over the coming weeks and months.”
Meallmore has been working closely with local mental health organisations including See Me Scotland, the anti stigma campaign; Scottish Association for Mental Health and the Greater Glasgow Mental Health Network Forum to help support the reduction of discrimination around mental ill-health.
David added “There’s a real lack of specialised care homes to help support people with mental health related conditions. People who experience mental health problems should be treated with the same dignity and respect as those experiencing physical problems.”
Meallmore has been providing care for the elderly for over 26 years and providing mental health care services for over 15 years. They have been particularly successful in helping vulnerable adults to take positive steps towards independent living.
