Aberdeen care workers to face misconduct hearings

Two Aberdeen care workers have been accused of failing in their care of young people and will face misconduct hearings in Dundee next week.

Kayleigh Coleman was alleged to have mistreated a student in her care. Among a series of charges, Coleman was also alleged to have put the student at risk by regularly having drugs, including heroin, in her home.

She is accused of locking the student out of the home where he was staying resulting in him being badly sunburned. Other charges include swearing at the student and failing to pass him money sent to him by family members.

In a seperate hearing, a support worker for Aberdeen City Council has been charged over a number of incidents at a residential childcare unit.

Joseph Scoular is accused of trapping the arm of a boy in residential care in a door for a prolonged period of time and also failing to check whether he was injured.

Mr Scoular was also alleged to have threatened a group of children that they would get access to a kitchen and the food there because of their poor behaviour.

He is also accused of using “negative and discriminatory” language about children in his care, colleagues and external inspectors.

The allegations will be heard July 30 & 31 at the Scottish Social Services Council in Dundee.
