Service for vulnerable young praised by inspectors

A West Lothian care home for young people has received top marks from Scotland’s social care regulator, the Care Inspectorate.

Selms House, in Kirknewton, was graded excellent across the board for the second inspection in a row following an unannounced inspection in May.

The service provides close support and care to vulnerable young people who for a variety of reasons are unable to live with their families.

A report on the inspection noted: “Young people are fully included in decision making throughout the service.

“The staff are innovative in looking for ways to help young people express their emotions and follow their safety plans.

“The manager continued to have a very good overview of what was happening in the home and had very positive relationships with the young people.”
