Fatal Accident Inquiry to be held into murder of foster carer
A fatal accident inquiry is to be held into the murder of a foster carer who was stabbed to death by the 13-year-old boy she was looking after.
Dawn McKenzie bled to death after being stabbed 10 times at her home in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, in June 2011.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons and is known as Boy D, was 13 when he carried out the attack and was detained for seven years at the High Court in Edinburgh in 2012.
The Crown Office has said an FAI preliminary hearing will be held on April 29 before a full inquiry is launched on September 17 at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
A significant case review by Glasgow Child Protection Committee was published ahead of the inquiry and made scathing comments about social work staffing levels.
It criticised under-pressure social workers, who did not visit the boy for two months after he had been placed with Dawn, for being in breach of their legal duty.
Dawn worked for agency Foster Care Associates, now called Core Assets, which accepted the placement from Glasgow City Council.
